COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus police meet with residents over a cup of coffee.

The Columbus-Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted “Coffee with a Cop” on Tuesday morning.

Officers, department command staff, and investigators were there to talk and answer questions.

The goal is to connect law enforcement with the community they serve.

Residents also want to let police know how much their work is valued.

“I think in a time when policemen are often kind of getting picked on that, I think we really got to encourage. They are the people that when we are at our most vulnerable time, having problems, we are going to call on them to help them, and we need to recognize them and build them up to let them know what an important part of the community they are,” said businessman Mark Castleberry.

CPD wants to host “Coffee with a Cop” every month.
