COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – One last meal with the lunch bunch. for years, Tommy Coggins has met friends at a Columbus restaurant on his lunch break. On Monday, Coggins took his last lunch break. His shoe shop on Highway 45 in Columbus is closing after nearly 40 years.
The 67-year-old says when he first bought the store, it was just a repair shop. He eventually started selling shoes as well.
“The shoe repair part is kind of a dying thing. Nobody wants to get into it anymore. Now the boot part, now it’s still real strong. Somebody needs to gets into that,” says Coggins.
Coggins says he’ll miss his loyal customers, but he plans to catch up with his old fishing buddies in retirement.
