COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A man is in the hospital tonight after an accident in Columbus.

Witnesses say the man driving a gray Buick Lasabre was traveling at a high rate of speed trying to make the light at the intersection of Airline Road and Highway 69 in Columbus.

He lost control of his vehicle and ran off the road, knocking down a stop sign and hitting a tree around noon today.

The driver had to be freed from the car; there were no other passengers. He was taken to Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle with non-life threatening injuries.

The Columbus Police Department is investigating the accident.
