COLUMBUS, MISS. (WCBI) Some tender, love, and care is what the Columbus Arts Council building is needing.
It has been a couple of decades since their home has been fixed up and the council needs people to donate some dollars to make everything a little brighter.

It’s a place that brings art and culture to the Golden Triangle, but its home isn’t as beautiful as the art supplies.
Paint chips falling down, stains taking over the ceilings, and lights going bad is why the arts council is in need of monetary donations.
A grant should take care of it, but Executive Director, Tina Sweeten-Lunsford explains that it’s not that easy.

“It’s really hard for us to get grant money to cover repairs and upgrades to the building so there are a lot of people out there that want to provide art programming for kids, but not so much to fix the ceiling.”

There is a reason that the ceiling is not looking its best.

“We renovated this building in 1997-98 and there was an air conditioning leak that caused some peeling of the paint on the ceiling and it’s just time for a new color, and the tracks are obsolete, so we have to get new track lighting.”

The ceiling not only affects the lighting, front desk clerk, Angie Knight expresses that she thinks it affects business also.

“Well they’re pretty in disrepair and it’s you know, we find paint chips on the floor every now and then when they fall down, and it needs some new color, and you can see some of the stains coming through.”

Repairs will cost around 6,000 dollars and will take three weeks. Board member Jerry Hodson explains how locals can be the arts council’s heroes.

“We are in dire needs of some funds and it is an organization that works on volunteer funds and we just really need the opportunity for people to come in and give us some dollars to help us out.”

The more money they get for repairs, then the stronger their art program can stay.

The goal is to have the remodeling done before the holidays.
