Columbus Capital Murder Trial

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Testimony wraps up today, December 6, in a Columbus capital murder trial.

The jury will receive instructions in the morning, hear closing arguments and begin deliberating the case.

Derrick Bankhead is accused of killing his cousin, Eddie Bankhead, during an armed robbery in July 2011.

Bankhead was convicted in September 2016 in Lowndes County Circuit Court.

However, that verdict was overturned.

Bankhead’s attorney learned that District Attorney Scott Colom was a stand-in defense attorney for Bankhead during a preliminary hearing in 2011.

The state Attorney General’s office is prosecuting the case.
