Video: Columbus Council Receives Police Department Evaluation

COLUMBUS ( WCBI) – The author of an evaluation of the Columbus Police  Department is pulling no punches – he says the department needs new leadership.

Dr. K.B. Turner delivered his evaluation of the department to council members Tuesday afternoon and he is very critical of Chief Oscar Lewis.  The report details the department’s staffing crisis and puts much of the blame for that on Lewis.    Turner says his six month look at the department shows Lewis fails to provide encouragement to veterans and especially new recruits.   His report states there will be approximately 30 new officers at the end of 2017 so now would be the time for the council to make a change in leadership.   WCBI will have reaction to the Turner report later today.
