Columbus elementary receives STEM grant

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – One East Columbus school is soon going a little more high tech thanks to a grant.

Fairview Elementary was handed a $5,000 check as part of a STEM grant.

The grant is part of a partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority and Bicentennial Volunteers Incorporated.

In total, nearly $600,000 in grants have been awarded to 161 different schools.

The money will pay for help pay for technology that will give students more of a hands-on approach in STEM-related subjects.

“Our students are going to get some innovative computer tablets that they can actually manipulate themselves and that will allow them to add devices to the tablet, learn coding, and those kinds of skills we think are important for 21st-century learning,” said Principal Ben Alexander.
