Columbus Homicide Victim Found Near Burning Car

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A man was found shot near a burning car, early Monday morning, in Columbus.

Columbus police say firefighters were called to the 2,200 block of 8th Avenue South about a grassfire.

A Columbus Fire and Rescue spokesman tells WCBI that when firemen arrived they found a car that was on fire.

As the flames were extinguished, a body was found several feet away.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant says there was evidence of a gunshot wound on the man’s body.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old D’Shawn Boyd.

Columbus police have not made an arrest in the homicide.
