COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus police continue searching for a killer and the victim is identified.

Dshawn Boyd, 19, was found near a burning car early Monday morning.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant says Boyd’s body will be taken to the crime lab for an autopsy tomorrow.

Columbus Police say firefighters were called to the 2,200 block of 8th Avenue South for a grassfire about 1:00 a-m.

A Columbus Fire and Rescue spokesman tells WCBI when fireman arrived they found a car on fire.

Boyd’s body was found several feet away from the damaged vehicle.

Merchant says there is evidence of a homicide.

It appears Boyd was shot.

Police have not made an arrest in the investigation.

Lowndes County jail records show Boyd was released from jail on November 16th on a possession of a weapon charge.
