COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Childhood obesity has increased at alarming rates in recent years and the Junior Auxiliary of Columbus is doing its part in helping to fight the epidemic.

Students at Fairview Elementary in Columbus participated in the Fit and Fabulous Forever health awareness program hosted by the Junior Auxiliary. The fitness program raises awareness about healthy eating habits and teaches students fun, easy activities like jump rope, the hula hoop and disc golf. The program is hosted about four times per year.

“Well, we’re really concerned about childhood obesity. It’s such a nation-wide issue as well as a real problem in our state in particular. So we decided as a group, a provisional group in our chapter, to go ahead and do a project that would really address some of these issues that are so critical,” says JA Member Kelly Trout .

This is the 3rd year that the Auxiliary has hosted the program in Columbus area schools.
