Itawamba Community College sophomore Michael-Ryan T. Lowe of Columbus has participated in a promotion ceremony for the prestigious Health, Equity and Leadership Initiative Program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Lowe participated in various leadership development programs, completed required assignments and projects and was mentored by medical professionals during the five-month program.

Lowe will be a 2015 graduate of ICC, where he is majoring in pre-medicine. His activities have included Science Club, Political Science Club, Foreign Language Club, resident assistant and Shiloh Childcare Ministry volunteer.

The Health Equity Leadership Institute is funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and offers leadership development and health career exploration among underrepresented males enrolled in two-year community colleges in Mississippi. Participants in the institute are encouraged to enroll in health professional education programs at the University of Mississippi Medical Center upon achievement of the associate’s degree.

Lowe was one of only two participants selected, and they were recognized at a luncheon on May 8 during the thirty-second annual honors day for the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Health Related Professions.
