A Columbus Man Dies In A Starkville Car Crash

STARKVILLE, Miss(WCBI) – A Columbus man is dead after running off the road and hitting a tree in Starkville.

It happened Saturday night a little before midnight.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol says 23-year old Brandon Perry lost his life in the one car accident.

Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt pronounced him dead at the scene.

Starkville Police say an officer saw Perry’s car not stop at a Mississippi Highway Patrol checkpoint on Highway 12 at Pat Station Road.

That’s when the SPD officer turned on his lights and tried to stop the driver.

The officer lost sight of the car for a short time, before spotting it off the road between Russel and Spring Street.

MHP then responded to investigate the crash.

“Mr. Perry left the roadway on Highway 12 just west of Russell Street, where he lost control of his vehicle. Then, ran off the north Side of Mississippi 12 and came back up on the roadway. Coming to final rest on the southbound side. It is under investigation with the Mississippi Highway Patrol it this time,”said MHP Public Affairs Officer SGT. Derrick Beckom.

The crash backed up traffic and knocked over a tree on the embankment.
