Columbus Mayor Robert Smith remains in mayoral race

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus Mayor Robert Smith will stay in the municipal election and try to keep his seat.

Multiple sources are telling WCBI that Smith has chosen to stay in the mayoral race.

Questions arose after Smith released statements stating he was at home under a doctor’s care.

Smith then began working from some from home.

Vice Mayor Bill Gavin will step in to fill the mayor’s duties.

Smith faces Independent candidates Montrell Coburn and Keith Gaskin in the June general election.
