COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus organization donates $3,000 to help preserve a piece of history.

A monument with two plaques will be placed on the Lowndes County Courthouse lawn.

The local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has the plaques that have the names of troops from Lowndes County that were killed in World War I.

At one time, the pieces of history were on display at the old Magnolia Bowl and were later found.

Lowndes Community Foundation made the financial donation Wednesday at the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors meeting.

The monument will be unveiled at the city’s November 7th Veterans Day program.
