Columbus Police Officer Suspended

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus police officer is suspended for 30 days without pay for fighting with an inmate at the Lowndes County Jail.

The City Council approved the suspension, which amounts to 17 work days, for Officer Greg Harstad Tuesday (1/15) night.

Harstad was described as remorseful during his appearance before the city council.

He is accused of taking off his badge after being taunted by an inmate who was being booked into the jail and getting into a fight with the suspect.

Harstad is a former military police officer who has been with the city since July 2009.
