Columbus Puts Deadline on Bus Company

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The next two weeks could make or break the chances for a public bus system in Columbus.

The Columbus City Council Tuesday night approved leasing Indiana-based Lawrence Transit space at the city’s public works garage for $500 a month to park its buses. But the company still hasn’t finalized plans for starting service in Columbus, even after a year of discussions.

Mayor Robert Smith has given the company until Aug. 9 to get five buses to the city or he will cancel any further dealings with the company.
