Video: Columbus Sales Tax Boost

columbus-downtownCOLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI-TV) As summer ends in Columbus, the sales tax dollars are showing a substantial increase from one year ago.

August numbers are more than 18 hundred dollars higher this year than last.

Tuesday Mayor Robert Smith spoke to the Rotary Club about who is spending money in Columbus.

The Mayor says visitors to Columbus have come as part of tournaments at the soccer complex, in addition to other events. And, those visitors are staying at local hotels, eating at local restaurants and shopping local.

 

The Mayor also answered questions about city business from local civic leaders and members at Tuesday’s Rotary luncheon.
