COLUMBUS, Miss. – A local church is celebrating two major milestones this weekend.

Mattie Lue Clemmons has been a member of Zion Gate M.B. Church since 1948.

Monday is her 100th birthday, so her fellow church members put together a big party for her to celebrate.

The event was also for her pastor, Dr. James A. Boyd, who also had a birthday recently.

Dr. Boyd says Clemmons has always been a very active member of the church – even until now.

“She was there when I came,” Boyd said. “I’ve pastored her for 47 years, and for 47 years, if she’s 100, you can tell about how old she was when I came.”

“I really don’t feel much different,” Clemmons said. “I don’t hurt. Sleep all night. I eat what I want.”

The party included a guest speaker, gifts and a birthday dinner.
