Community Thanksgiving Prep

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s almost Turkey Day and that means local organizations are stepping up to ensure residents receive a meal.

It’s a partnership between the community, the Columbus Police Department and the Salvation Army.

Volunteers spent Tuesday morning, November 21, at Stokes Beard Elementary School preparing ingredients and all the trimmings for meals for an estimated 1,400 residents.

Ruthie Moss says with the need growing each year, services like this are so important to the community.

“Just this time of year is just a lonely time for some people and so it’s a nice way for people to be able to give and help others this time of year,” says volunteer Ruthie Moss.

The community Thanksgiving lunch will begin at 10.

If you are interested in volunteering you are asked to arrive at Stokes Beard Elementary at 8am.
