CPD Officer Points Taser At Suspect In Handcuffs

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus police officer could face disciplinary action after pointing a taser at suspect in handcuffs, while he was being treated at the hospital.

Above is a picture the city released through a Freedom of Information request by WCBI. Body camera footage will not be available until next week.

You can see the taser being pointed at the unidentified man in a room at Baptist Golden Triangle hospital.

City Spokesman Joe Dillon says the city cannot comment on the incident because it remains under investigation.

Sources tell WCBI that office Toni Howard is the officer in question.

The suspect was never tased.

WCBI is also told body camera footage shows the inmate in question berating the female officer while she took him to the hospital and while at the facility.

City councilmen are expected to discuss the issue in executive session at their Tuesday, October, 3, meeting.
