CPD Officer’s Body Cam Footage Released From Taser Incident

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The city of Columbus releases body camera footage from an incident where a police officer pointed a taser at a man while being treated at the hospital.

In the video, you can see and hear the man yell and curse the officer and others at Baptist Golden Triangle’s emergency room on September 11.

Sources tell WCBI the officer with the taser is Toni Howard.

She never tases the man and the seconds of the video shown above is the only interaction where a taser is shown in the hour long video.

The man was arrested and had a warrant for his arrest.

Hospital staff refused to complete treatment that night because of his belligerent behavior.

Based on the police department’s transport of inmates to medical care facilities procedure and use of force policy concerning tasers, there does not appear to a blatant violation.

The matter remains under investigation.

City spokesman Joe Dillon the city council is not expected to hear from Howard at tonight’s meeting, October 3, based on a request from her attorney.
