COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The new Cracker Barrel Restaurant and Old Country Store planned for Columbus could be open as early as June, depending on weather.

And the popular family-style restaurant will provide full- and part-time job opportunities for as many as 200 people.

The city’s planning department received blue prints for the site Wednesday afternoon and they are being reviewed by city planners, the fire department and others to make sure they meet city guidelines. Once approved, the city will issue a building permit. Construction could begin with a few weeks.

The 10,244-square-foot building is planned for 2.5 acres on the south side of 18th Avenue North at 6th Street just off Highway 82 and across from Logan’s. The property already is zoned for a restaurant.

The Lebanon, Tenn.-based chain already has outlets in Corinth and Tupelo in Northeast Mississippi and Tuscaloosa, Ala.
