Cracking Down On Underage Drinking In College Towns

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – State agents and local law enforcement are cracking down on underage drinking, especially in college towns.

Recently, the Mississippi Attorney General’s Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement Division cited nine bars and businesses and 23 people in Oxford, Starkville, and Cleveland for serving alcohol to minors.

Violations included selling to minors, minor in possession of alcohol, and fake IDs.

Starkville Police have written 14 MIPs in the past two months.

Public Information Officer Corporal Brandon Lovelady says activity varies from weekend to weekend.

“Increased nightlife like on football, there will be increased nightlife, increased population in town, which potentially could lead to more individuals that are here under age drinking.”

Alcohol Beverage and Control agents issued 67 citations in Oxford Thursday night.
