Crash Shuts Down Parts Of Highway 82

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- An 18-wheeler full of scrap metal overturns on Highway 82 Friday afternoon, creating a traffic nightmare.

A full load of scrap metal was scattered along the road, just past the 18th Avenue on-ramp, in the eastbound lanes.

Columbus Police have not released any information about how the driver may have lost control.

He only had minor injuries.

Traffic was diverted onto 18th Avenue from Highway 82.

Scrap metal was scattered across all four lanes of the road.

It took crews from Columbus public works and Go Box about 5 hours to the clear the scene.

The highway was expected to reopen at 5 p.m.
