Dangerous Icy Waters Across The Viewing Area

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Extremely low temperatures are leaving some area ponds and ditches frozen.

Chunks of ice could be seen in a small pond in Columbus this morning, January 17.

You should never walk on the ice and avoid falling in the water. Hypothermia can set in quickly.

Temperatures ranged from 3 degrees in Chickasaw County to 5 in Winston County.

Columbus reached a low of 7, with a -9 wind chill.

Tupelo bottomed out at 5 degrees this morning.

Forecasts show, North Mississippi will not get above freezing today or tonight.
