Davis Family Asks City To Preserve Records In Shooting
COLUMBUS (WCBI) – The family of the man shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting has hired an attorney to advise them through the investigation.
Attorney Carlos Moore has sent a letter to the city asking the city to save any and all evidence, communications, video footage and other electronic communications gathered in the hours following the Saturday morning shooting. Raymond Davis, Sr. died after being engaged by Columbus officer Jared Booth during a disturbance call outside of a Columbus lounge. Booth is currently on paid administrative leave which is standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is in charge of the investigation. Columbus city officials were in favor of releasing Booth’s body camera footage from the incident but MBI would not endorse that release. The letter delivered to Chief Oscar Lewis does not state that the Davis family is filing a lawsuit . Lawyers routinely send such notices to parties in advance even if no legal action is ever taken.
