COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)—This weekend, all over the country, people are finding ways to pay respect to those who lost there lives on 9/11.

Here in Columbus, military men and women from the Columbus Air Force Base…will spend the weekend doing community service.

This morning and all afternoon several dozens spent time cleaning and cooking at the Loaves and Fishes Food pantry.

One food pantry volunteer says it’s just a small way people can show their support and feel connected to one another.

Owner of Loaves and Fishes, Ann Sparkman says,”We are remembering the day of 9/11. It brought our country together…I think and people are willing to get together to volunteer to help other people to remember that day.”

National MSgt. Carmina Beedle says,”We get so much support from the Columbus Community and the Columbus town…that’s its important for us to also be out there and show everybody that we do appreciate the support that we get and to make sure that they understand not only are we defending our country but we are right here for other things too.”

Last year, the Loaves and Fishes pantry served more than 25-thousand meals.
