WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s official, West Point will have three new selectmen in July and could have a fourth. Final certified vote totals show Gary Dedeaux avoided a runoff with incumbent Ward 5 alderman Jasper Pittman by one vote in Tuesday’s Democratic primary. Dedeaux got 456 votes to 345 for Pittman and 110 for Margaret Shelton. The totals gave him to 50 percent plus one he needed to win outright. A new selectman was elected in the open Ward 1 race and William Binder unseated incumbent Homer Cannon in Ward 2. Incumbent Charles Collins and challenger Jimmy Clark are in the May 21 runoff in Ward 3. Keith Mcbrayer easily won re-election in Ward 4.

Congratulations to Gary Dedeaux! What a breath of fresh air to the Board of Alderman to replace those who “say” they are for the people but their actions and inactions have spoken volume of just the opposite. Mr. Dedeaux won’t have to do too much to show that his predesor’s integrity was compromised and was municipally incompetent at best. Good Luck Gary!
