Deputies are searching for gunman in connection to Artesia Day shooting

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Lowndes County deputies continue to search for a gunman that opened fire with hundreds of people nearby. The shooting happened as Artesia Day was coming to a close this past weekend. The 29-year-old victim was shot in the face and neck. He was later airlifted to a Jackson hospital. Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins says with so many people around Obama Street, where the shooting happened, he believes someone knows what happened and may even have it recorded on their phone. “If somebody did see something and they want to report it, they can do it anonymously. So no one knows they have reported this information. What we need is information, who committed this crime,” said Sheriff Eddie Hawkins. “We have a victim that’s being treated now and suffering from these injures, and we want to try to bring justice for that victim.” You can report that information anonymously to crime stoppers at the number on your screen or the P3 Tips App.
