WASHINGTON (AP) – The check won’t be in the mail soon for nearly 5 million Americans receiving some type of federal benefit.

March first is the deadline for making the switch from a paper check to either direct deposit or a Debit Mastercard.

Federal officials say right now more than 5 million people getting federal benefits like Social Security or disability payments have not made the switch.

In order to avoid a disruption in payments, people still receiving paper checks are asked to call toll free 1-800-333-1795
