Doug Evans recuses himself from Curtis Flowers case

WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) – It has been less than a month since Curtis Flowers was released on bond.

Monday, the man who has pursued him in court since 1996 has officially recused himself and his office from further prosecution of Flowers.

Doug Evans, the District Attorney for the Fifth Circuit, has tried Flowers six times in the Winona Tardy Furniture store murders.

The case has ended in mistrials, hung juries and overturned by higher courts.

Flowers was allowed to go home on bond in December.

Evans requested the Mississippi Attorney General’s office take over the case.
