NEW ALBANY, Miss.(WCBI) — For twelve years blue grass artists have descended on New Albany to compete for prize money.

But this year the fabled Tallahatchie River flowed by the river park as performers struted their stuff for eight thousand dollars in prize money during the Down From the Hills Heritage Music Festival. Sean Johnson is Director of Marketing for the city of New Albany. He says this event is great for the local economy.

“It’s tremendous,” he exclaims. “All our RV spots are taken. Our hotels are full. Of course you can see the crowds. You saw them when you were coming into town. We’ve got people all over town this weekend so the economic impact is certainly positive,” he says.

Johnson says that impact should easily be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. He says they moved the event from it’s previously location the Union County Fairgrounds in order to take advantage of the closeness to the downtown and of course the proximity to the Tallahatchie.
