LOWNDES CO., Miss. (WCBI) — A heavy downpour and rain slicked roads are to blame for a mid afternoon car crash in Lowndes County.

It happened around 3:30 pm Wednesday on Highway 82, just west of the Macon Meridian Exit.

The driver of the silver Hyundai Elantra apparently hydroplaned before slamming into the guard rail. The driver was taken to Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating.
