DUI Arrest Hinders Man’s Police Officer Application Process

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus man hired to become a police officer withdraws his application after being arrested.

32 year-old Benjamin Porter is charged with DUI refusal to take test, Resisting Arrest, Carry of a Concealed Weapon, Failure to Obey a Police Officer and No Insurance.

Porter was arrested by Columbus, just after five Sunday morning, near Alabama Street and Highway 69.

All of the charges are misdemeanors.

City Spokesman Joe Dillon says Porter’s hire was pending the completion of several CPD requirements.

Porter never wore a badge or carried a department issued gun.
