Education awards ceremony for Lowndes County students and teachers

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Students and educators from across Lowndes County were recognized for their hard work and dedication.

The Columbus-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce Education Committee hosted its Education Awards Program on Thursday.

Students with the highest GPA, outstanding senior, corporate scholarships and teacher of the year honors were given.

The committee raised $10,000 in scholarship money from sponsors.

“Businesses can get involved by sponsoring scholarships and that’s why we are here today, so through sponsoring scholarships, they’re able to see the youth of our community go on to next level things, come back to our community and be a great workforce for the business community for years to come,” said Lisa James with the The Columbus-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce.

Students applied for the awards and the applications were judged.
