Elementary Students ‘Move To Learn’ As Part Of Fun Activity

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -Hundreds of students at Tupelo’s Rankin Elementary learned that movement can be fun. Coach Larry Calhoun brought “Move to Learn” to the school.

He spoke to all students and teachers, teaching them the value of taking short breaks from classroom time, to do simple, exercises.

Coach Calhoun says it’s important for students to start healthy habits at a young age.

“When these young people become adults, they will associate movement and fitness with something positive and not something punitive.  Not to mention the fact that there’s a laughter component, in the laughter component, we know children who laugh on a regular basis, catch far fewer colds , they also release these feel good chemicals in the bloodstream that keep them healthy and keep them happy,  happy children, I think will always do better than sad children,” Coach Calhoun said.

“Move to Learn” is free, and is provided by a partnership between the Bower Foundation and the Mississippi Department of Education Office of Healthy Schools.
