Eupora’s first African-American mayor featured speaker for MLK Day

EUPORA, Miss. (WCBI) – The town of Eupora celebrated MLK Day by recognizing the election of the town’s first African-American mayor.

Organizers planned the first-ever MLK March.

Participants met at Liberty United Methodist Church and marched to the Eupora Post Office for a short program.

Mayor Lamar Dumas was the featured speaker. He talked about the significance and relevance of Dr. King’s dream.

“There’s always room for improvement on the dream, but to me it’s very much alive. I’m a living recipient of the Civil Rights Movement. Without that movement, I probably would not even be mayor of the city of Eupora as we speak,” said Mayor Dumas.

Dumas was elected mayor of Eupora in 2017.
