The Everything Garden Expo

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Spring is in the air and many are ready to spring into their gardens.

The Everything Garden Expo came to Starkville, to help those with a green thumb.

Our Rylie Livingston was there and has more on the story.

“I’m an avid gardener. I love it. It’s just a passion of mine,” says expo attendee, Rubel West.

Hundreds of people came to the Mississippi Horse Park to visit the Everything Garden Expo.

This is the first time in two years for the expo to make an appearance.

Rubel West has over twenty years of gardening experience, but is always wanting to learn more at these events.

“I attend all of them. As much as I can, all of the extensions, and things that the Extension puts on.”

The event had stops for gardening rookies and seasoned ones.

Dozens of venders came to present their products and share information with local gardeners.

“I learned a lot from the guys back there about entomology, about the bugs, and the new ants that are coming this way.”

Gardening is a way of life for West and he says these events keep him rooted in the gardening world.

“Peace, it gives me that space that I go, like a man cave. I can go out there and the kids don’t follow me, the wife doesn’t follow me, cause it’s too hot, too sweaty, and I’m just out there with the plants and animals.”

The proceeds will be used to help projects and provide scholarships for MSU students studying agriculture and horticulture.

Reporting from Starkville, I’m Rylie Livingston, WCBI News.

The Oktibbeha County Master Gardeners put on the event, which is one of two fundraising events planned this year.
