Video: Extension Office Preserves Lost Art

EUPORA, Miss. (WCBI) — There’s apparently an art to canning jams and jellies, and the Webster County Extension Office wants to preserve it.

That’s why it held two pressure canning workshops Monday at the Eupora Community Center.

Folks are growing their own crops, and want to learn how to preserve their food for the winter.

“It is a lost art,” said Jennifer Williams, Webster County Extension Agent. “We find with our younger generation they tend not to have those skills for food preservation. So it’s important we provide workshops and educational opportunities for those who want to preserve their own food they are growing.”

Participants learned how to keep food from spoiling, and had an in-depth discussion about jams and jellies.
