Fake Shooting Claim Leads To Real Charges

TUPELO (WCBI) – A Monday court date awaits a Tupelo man responsible for setting off a massive search for a gunman in Lee County.

Brian Edwards called for help Wednesday night claiming he stopped to help a stranded motorist along Interstate 22 and that person shot him. State troopers and Lee County authorities searched for the gunman but now it turns out the whole thing was made up . MBI agents say Edwards shot himself and have charged him with filing a false report and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
