Fall Finally Arrives!

HURRICANE MICHAEL: Hurricane Michael is moving through the Gulf and taking aim at the Florida Panhandle. Landfall is predicted as a major category 3 hurricane near Panama City Beach/Destin, FL. Michael will take a northeast turn prior to landfall, as an upper level trough pushes through the southeast.  Locally, our impacts will be minimal as our cold front helps to deflect Michael away towards Georgia and the Carolinas.

TONIGHT: Staying just a bit breezy out there with winds out of the SE at 5-10 with gusts up to 25 at times.  We’ll increase cloud cover with a few isolated showers and our temperatures will fall into the low 70s

WEDNESDAY: The cold front pushes through our area Wednesday, bringing with it numerous showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid to low 80s. Temperatures dip into the 60s overnight.  We’ll start the day with a few isolated showers and southeast winds 10-15 mph with gusts up to 25, but as the front passes, winds will shift from the north at 10-15 mph with higher gusts. Look for variably cloudy conditions with a few scattered showers overnight. Lows in the low 70s.

THURSDAY – SATURDAY: Things are looking mighty crisp out there as highs are only expected to be in the 70s with lows in the upper 40s and low 50s at night.  Aside from a few isolated showers early Thursday, look for lots of sunshine, which will help the afternoons feel nice.

SUNDAY – EARLY NEXT WEEK: A second punch of cooler air is coming in.  While its difficult to say just how cool things will be, we won’t get much warmer than the 70s with a few showers possible as the front passes.  We’ll continue to watch, but more 60s/70s for highs and lows in the 40s/50s can be expected.  Expect the forecast to fine-tune in the coming days.
