False Report Lands Lee County Man in Jail for Christmas

Lee County, MS (WCBI) — Guntown police, along with officers from Baldwyn, Saltillo, and Lee County spent part of the day searching for two men accused of assaulting a Guntown resident. Only one problem: that assault never happened. Guntown Police Chief Michael Hall says Charles Roberts now faces charges of filing a false report after he called 9-1-1 just before noon Wednesday. Roberts claimed someone had broken into Mitchell’s Grocery and assaulted him. Based on that report, Hall asked the neighboring towns to look for the two men Roberts claimed beat him up. After about a half an hour, it was determined nothing had happened, and Roberts wound up being the person spending the rest of Christmas in jail.
