Columbus, Miss. (WCBI) – The driver of a Fed Ex truck died after being thrown 30 feet from the crash on Tuesday morning.

The accident happened about 10 A.M. on Highway 45, near Spivey Road.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol says Undra Williams, 49, of Starkville was driving the delivery truck when he attempted to switch lanes of traffic and then swerved to avoid another vehicle in the northbound lane.

M.H.P. Sgt. Criss Turnipseed says the truck left the east side of the highway and crashed into a ditch embankment.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant says Williams died in surgery about an hour and a half after the accident.

Nathan Weaver, 29, of Columbus was also ejected from the Fed Ex vehicle. He was found under the truck and later released from the hospital. According to Merchant, Weaver was in the back of the truck when the crash occurred.

Merchant says Williams was employed by JW Ground Express of Starkville. The company is a contractor hired by Fed Ex.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
