Federal Fugitive Jailed In Lee County

TUPELO (WCBI) – An  man with a history of threatening a federal judge is jailed in Lee County.  Sheriff Jim Johnson says his deputies working with U.S. Marshals and Sherman Police have picked up 34 year old Jason Wayne Chambers on a charge of  failing to register as a sex offender.

The case opened last week when Chambers failed to return to a Federal Probation facility where he was serving probation for threatening a federal judge.  Evidence led authorities to believe Chambers was in Sherman living with his girlfriend. That turned out to be the case and Chambers was picked up at the home of his girlfriends mother.    Now 31 year old Malia Cox of Pontotoc County is charged with Harboring and Assisting a Sex Offender.

Chambers faces the failing to register as a sex offender because he was convicted of rape in 2001 in Cullman County ,Alabama.
