Federal Lawsuit Claims Excessive Force From Deputies

WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A federal lawsuit is claiming Webster County deputies used excessive force during a March 3rd pursuit.

Robert Salley says he and his girlfriend got lost on a Webster County back road while on the way to a family barbecue.

Salley says he somehow wound up on Highway 50 and turned around to get back on track and did not see a Webster County safety checkpoint.

Deputies started their pursuit because they believed Salley was avoiding the roadblock. The chase stretched into Grenada County where Salley’s car ran in a ditch.

The lawsuit says the Webster deputies got out of their car and order Salley to surrender but Salley was able to free his car and start driving away.

Attorney Carlos Moore says thats when one deputy wounded Salley in the shoulder and arm.

The chase ended at the suspects mothers home where Salley hid under a truck in the backyard. Salley claims that’s when he was attacked by a Police dog before being arrested.

The suit seeks a minimum of $1 million in damages.
