Few details emerge in press conference about Artesia shooting deaths

ARTESIA. Miss. (WCBI) – Investigators said this is one of the worst crime scenes they can remember.

It happened late Tuesday afternoon on Mobile Road. Three men were shot and killed at a home there.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant has released the victim’s names. The victims are Demario Snell, Mauricio Lamarcus, and Tyshun Bernard Fields all from Lowndes County.

The sheriff’s department held a news conference earlier Wednesday.

An investigation remains underway.

Less than 500 people live in Artesia and a crime of this magnitude has this small town very shaken up.

Investigators said they haven’t seen a homicide in the county like this since the 80’s.

A motive is still not known, but investigators believe the suspect knew the victims.

Very little information is known at this time. And very little details were released Wednesday morning at the Sheriff’s Department’s press conference.

They said the purpose of the press conference was to let everyone know this crime had a tragic impact on the community.

Investigators said they believe there are witnesses who have beneficial information in this case. They are encouraging them to come forward with anything they know.
