Fifth Person Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Hattiesburg Officers

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) – A fifth person has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of two Mississippi police officers last weekend.

Agents of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation have charged 29-year-old Abram Wade “Pete” Franklin of Hattiesburg with obstruction of justice. He’s being held in the Forrest County Jail awaiting his initial appearance in justice court. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.

The MBI, in a news release Wednesday, did not provide further details, saying only that information developed during the investigation into the deaths of Hattiesburg police Officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate led to the charges against Franklin.

Marvin Banks is jailed without bond on two capital murder charges. His girlfriend, Joanie Calloway; younger brother, Curtis Bank; and a friend, Cornelius Clark, also face charges in the case.
