First case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children reported in Mississippi

The Mississippi Department of Health reported its first case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) on Tuesday.

MSDH said the child was from Central Mississippi who tested positive for COVID-19.

The child has been discharged from the hospital.

MIS-C is an inflammatory illness found in children under 18-years-old. It maybe be associated with previous COVID-19 infections.

The illness is rare and not contagious.

State health officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said the syndrome presents itself post COVID-19 infections.

MSDH is also investigating other suspected cases of MIS-C.
