First responders enjoy Thanksgiving lunch in West Point

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI)- Thanksgiving. It has the word giving right in its name.

For Third Mount Olive Church in West Point, giving is what they do.

Wednesday they held their community Thanksgiving Lunch.

Firefighters, police officers, and community it members came out to enjoy a warm lunch.

Pastor Randy Conley says giving back to the community is something they aim to do.

“It’s important to give back to the community because one reason people are less fortunate, and it’s our job as the church to reach out to those in to assist those who are in need of support and in need of help. Because you never know what’s going on with the person, but anything you can do to brighten their day I think it’s always the best thing to do,” said Conley.

“My mom always told me it’s better to give than to receive. When you give, you receive and that’s what we’re doing when we give each of these plates and just food out to these people who are hungry we receive more,” said church member Pauline Gardner.

The church plans to have this event next year.
