Forest industry could see growth at end of year

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippi’s forestry industry could see some growth to end 2019.

Forestry is the state’s second-highest producing agricultural commodity, with a production value of one point $1 billion.

Experts said the timber that has been harvested and delivered has declined since 2015. They believe numbers will remain steady or slightly increase by the end of this year.

Final figures will be available in February.

Mississippi State researchers believe sale prices for timber should remain neutral.

63% of Mississippi’s land is covered in forests.
